Brake Repair Canton

Brake Repair Technician CantonEvery driver should know the two ways to identify worn-out brake pads: by sight and by sound.

When checking your brakes for wear by sight, you should look at the thickness of the brake pads. If they are less than 1/4 inch thick, you are about due for brake pad replacement and should schedule a service appointment. If you see that the pads are under 1/8 inch thick, then you are past due for a replacement and should take care of it right away. If the pads wear through, the calipers can damage the rotors and necessitate expensive repairs.

You should also pay attention to the sounds of worn-out pads. If you hear a screeching noise, then your pads have worn down to the built-in wear indicator and should be replaced very soon. If you hear something more like metal grinding on metal when you apply your brakes, this is a serious problem. It means that the pads have worn all the way through and your calipers are damaging your rotors. At this point, you will probably need to have your rotors resurfaced or replaced. Remember: It's always safer and cheaper to replace your pads early than to replace them too late!

Brake System Service

Your brake system is probably the most important safety feature your car has, so it is important to keep it in good shape. To stay safe on the road, check your brakes regularly, have them maintained as needed, and get annual brake inspections. AAMCO certified technicians will examine the entire braking system to look for any current problems or potential issues. An AAMCO brake inspection will cover pads, shoes, hydraulic fluids, drums, rotors, calipers, wheel cylinders, brake hardware, hoses and lines, master cylinders, and the anti-lock brake system when applicable.

Come to AAMCO right away if you notice any of the signs of brake trouble in your car, such as squealing, grinding, other strange noises, a brake pedal that goes nearly all the way to the floor, or a brake warning light that won’t shut off. The AAMCO Brake System Service includes:

  • A thorough inspection of your vehicle's entire braking system
  • Replacement of worn pads and shoes
  • Repacking of wheel bearings as needed
  • Lubrication for specified components
  • Rotor and drum resurfacing or replacement
  • Replacement of other components as needed
  • Replacement of  old brake fluid with fresh fluid
  • Adjustment of the parking brake
  • A road test to ensure the entire braking system is working properly
